Summary: Outstanding Instructional Book!
Comment: This is an incredible work. The author has a definite labor of love in creating this phenomenal treatise on Judo. Check out his award-winning website www.judoinfo.com and you will see his great work. The author expands on his website information with this book, making many of the grips, throws, footwork, etc easier to see and understand.
Having been a practicing martial artist for over twenty years, I am picky about the reference books I select. This is one of my top three books.
Highly recommended for anyone in any style, especially looking for solid information on the basics of judo. Along with Kano's "Kodokan Judo", this will become the standard judo 'bible'.
Well worth the investment!

Summary: very good
Comment: this book is probably the best book of judo out their. the pictures are clear and alternate versions of throws are often shown.
i have only a few minor complaints.

number 1 the grappling/ne waza section is pathetic. i suggest buying one of the gracies Bjj books. Bjj theory and technique is considered the standard. the path to black belt is my favorite.

number 2 this isnt judo unleashed. its made for tornements. everything is done with the gi. there are only a few techniques that are illegal in tornements. if you are looking for some more "unleashed" techniques cross train in another martial art like BJJ or ask some of the senoir students at your dojo.

this book is an esential to anyone studying judo. if you study some similar martial arts like BJJ you should check out this book. i consider this my Judo text book

Summary: pretty darn good, but not advanced
Comment: I like this book a LOT and I get a ton out of it. BUT, I've only been doing Judo for about a year. I think for an advanced player it would be a good review, but I doubt they would find anything earth-shaking (pardon the pun) here.

Summary: Very impressive
Comment: I'm not an experienced Judoka, I don't study it formally, but I do take several other martial arts, and I have found this book to be an excellent addition to my skills. I currently study Muay Thai, Karate, and do MMA classes every now and then, and I've found this book to be incredibly helpful. When sparring in my MMA class I can utilze many of the techniques and princibles laid out in this book.
I gives clear description of each technique, as well as counter techniques to each move. It also shows what to do if your technique fails, and how to immediately move to the next one. I even show the book to a couple of the Judo black belts in my Muay Thai class, and they asked where they could get a copy to help with their training.
I'd definately reccomend this to anyone interested in Judo, or any current students of the art.
One of the best books in my collection.

Summary: Keiko
Comment: Good book for the serious practioner, aids for analizing the technikes of judo, which should be practiced with a good instructor anyway.
