Customer Rating: Summary: Not for Shinsengumi fans Comment: This novel is a love story, unfortunately not a very good love story. It lacks the depth and complexity necessary to really bring the Shinsengumi characters to life. While reading this all I could think is that I've read more interesting fanfiction on the internet than this! The plot lacks continuity and complexity. The main character lacks any foundation leaving the reader feeling like this girl would never actually exist in this reality or any other. Plot twists pop up in random places and are magically solved by some random snap of the fingers. Devoted fans to the Shinsengumi will be sorely disappointed in the portrayal of the characters, particularly Hijikata Toshizou. Even if you are looking for just a romantic read, I doubt this novel will satisfy. Customer Rating: Summary: DAISHO Comment: I didn't think i would be able to get into this book- as I really never had an interest in Japanese history, or culture, but I could not put it down. The characters were so completely developed and sympathetic, that I even cared about the "bad guys". Daisho is a pure, romantic, beautifully told, good old-fashioned love story that appeals to any gender reader.
