Editorial Reviews:

In the modern world, people are not only separated from their environment, but also from their own bodies and minds. We can learn to integrate all these fragments and return to our original nature. In 'Tao, the Subtle Universal Law', Hua-Ching Ni carefully presents the wisdom and practical methods that the ancient Chinese have successfully used for centuries. To lead a good stable life is to be aware of the actual conjoining of the universal subtle law with every moment and event of our lives. The real meaning of taoist self-discipline is to harmonize with universal law. This is almost the total secret of a Taoist life. The value of this book lies in the fact that it not only tells us 'why' but also 'how.'

Summary: New Age Claptrap
Comment: There are a few key insights in this book---if you don't mind wading through pages and pages of trite platitudes and new agey nonsense. This book, like all the others by the same author, is not worth your time or your money.

If you're looking for Taoist wisdom, why not go directly to the source? Read the Tao Te Ching, the writings of Chuang Tzu, the Lieh Tzu, the Wen Tzu, I Ching, etc. Any one of these writings has about 12 times more insight than all of Hua Ching Ni's books combined.

Summary: Where' s the beef?
Comment: Though there's nothing particularly toxic about "Master" Ni's books, I don't think they have much to do with Tao. Let's consider the evidence:

1)Ni proclaims himself a "Master" and touts his spiritual pedigree and credentials in many of his books.

2)He publishes many many books on Tao. He has much to say. He has many many "insights" to share. He rambles.

3) He places his own grinning visage on the cover of books.

Now go read the Tao Teh Ching. Done yet? OK, now you can clearly see that all of the above directly contradict the most basic Taoist teachings. Read Ni if you must, but this is not the Tao.

Summary: A great overview of Taoist science
Comment: This is one of the best books ever to explain the science and philosophy of Taoism. The first section brilliantly explains yin/yang, chi, the five elements, etc. in a manner few other authors could ever match. Consider one of the authors explanations of the nature of yin and yang: "Yang is something that seeks to accomplish itself, yin is something that seeks to join in the act of accomplishment." This book is full of simple yet profound and unique gems like that. The last section gives some details of the authors remarkable spiritual lineage, something this author modestly omits from his other books.

Summary: A book for the new age gullible and naive
Comment: Ni is a cult leader and an (achieved master) self reported by MR. NI himself..If your the type that believe BS like that, then you may like this book as its as bogus as the day is long.

Summary: The most comprehensive book on the application of the Tao.
Comment: As an instructor of T'ai Chi, I recommend this book to all of my students. Hua-Ching Ni seems to relate his knowledge to each reader individually. Any martial arts instructor would benefit in reading this book.
