Editorial Reviews:

One of the art's earliest and most complete training manuals, The Method of Chinese Wrestling explores all aspects of this ancient fighting system, including solo training, training with equipment, constructing training apparatus, application of techniques, and the rules of competition. Throwing, gripping, and falling techniques are revealed in minute detail, and in accompanying photographs, the author and his top students illustrate the methods described. Both a fascinating historical document and a practical training guide, the book is an essential reference for anyone interested in the martial arts.

Summary: Photos are not good, vcds or dvds are better source for study
Comment: Low quality photos and short descriptions in the book are not good source for study. I think that vcds or dvds are better source for study of chinese wrestling. Nevertheless, the book has some historical value. Price is pleasant.

Summary: Good for background
Comment: I rated this book middle of the road. It's got some good history, and some interesting material on building various training apparatus, but if you are looking for books that clearly explain techniques, this book is not the one.

I will keep it a reference book for my martial arts library, but it will not be a top shelfer.

Summary: Interesting
Comment: A lot of historical background.

For me, the main benefit were the training methods and their similarities and differences from those used in tai chi chuan. 2 kinds of bang, rope.

Summary: Only for those in the know!
Comment: Tim who very well may be the most complete martial artist living in North America has done an excellent job on this "project". That said. if you haven't read some of his other works(ie:"Effortless Combat Throws....") and more importantly had "mat time" your probably aren't going to get a great deal from this read.

Summary: Good text if you're going to do the work.
Comment: I recently picked up this book and basically agree with the other reviewers in that it is a quality book. The presentation is clear and pretty easy to follow. It's the kind of book that really gives you a place to start, but of course you've got to do the work. Isn't that always the way?

One caution though, there is not much in the way of commentary on the history of philosophy of Chinese Wrestling in this book, it's more manual than text book.
