Editorial Reviews:

Draws on some parallels between East and West so that the reader may love and live through Aikido as Geis has. Use this book in your quest for knowledge and through you the strength of Aikido will be always available.

Summary: New Edition is still one of my all time favorites
Comment: Karl Geis is the real deal, a true martial arts pioneer, direct student of Sensei's Tomiki, Osawa, Daigo, and Miyake(to name a few) and martial Artist who has rigorusly, with great intellctual power, complete saturation of the subject and an eye toward the univerality of principle, come to grasp and grapple with Aikido and make it his own-- not a pale imitation of anyone elses' Aikido but a unique and individual expression of the art itself. His book is one of my all time favorites in martial arts literature both for its form and content. Written in the 80's, the author's life lessons and observations are still sharp and on point today. Where most aikido books range off into mysticism or other kinds of gooey philosophy; or into near cultish hero worship of Ueshiba , this book gets down to simple , profound, personal stories from a man who has genuinely lived his philosophy and has backed it up in a truly physical fashion for nearly 50 years. If you are a student of any form of budo you owe it to yourself to take a lesson from Mr. Geis and his book Twelve Winds is an excellent place to start.
P.S. you may also want to check out his extensive collection of videos and dvd's (over 50 titles on aikido and judo; availible through Geis's webpage)- some of the most techniclly rich teaching materials in the martial arts I have ever seen.
