Customer Rating: Summary: best boxing book I have found! Comment: This is the best book on boxing that I have found and I have quite a few manuals on the subject. It has the basics but also shows drills that I haven't found anywhere else. Its my "bible" for when I want to work a certain aspect.
Customer Rating: Summary: Not Perfect, But Still A Darn Good Basic Overall Guide For A Good Boxing Workout Comment: I found this book to be very informative although a lot of the information that was contained in this book I already had previous knowledge of. That's not to say that I didn't learn anything, as a matter of fact I actually learned quite a bit.
However, I would add that none of the techniques described in this book were gone over with any great detail, but since this book was intended more as an overall guide, the author did pretty well. Although there were a couple of sections, notably the resistance exercise and stretching sections, that were rather weak on any real type of detailed explanations.
This book begins with a basic overview of the boxing basics such as; footwork, stances, punches, blocks, body movement, etc. It then goes into a wide variety of boxing drills and training methods with various pieces of equipment that you can use to hone your boxing skills. The final section of the book covers the basics of sparring with a partner.
Now I know that the pictures aren't going to be perfect because of the way that they are printed in a black and white format on regular paper instead of color photograph on glossy paper, but they still came out fairly well and I really didn't have much of a problem at all seeing what the author was trying to say through the use of these photographs. However, I would also add that there were a lot of places were more descriptive text would have been a definite plus.
In addition to this particular book on boxing, I would also recommend the following books to improve your boxing skills.
Boxing Mastery: Advanced Technique, Tactics, and Strategies from the Sweet Science
Savage Science Of Streetfighting: Applying The Lessons Of Championship Boxing To Serious Street Survival
Championship Streetfighting: Boxing As A Martial Art
Fists, Wits, And A Wicked Right: Surviving On The Wild Side Of The Street
And one of my all-time favorites, but beware, it can be very expensive!
Championship Fighting: Explosive Punching and Aggressive Defense

Customer Rating: Summary: Fighting Fit: Comment: This is the second book in a series of three collaborations between Doug Werner and Alan Lachica on the topic of boxing.
The book "Fighting Fit", is the best of the three. It is packed with boxing wisdom, is well written, and the photographs easily show the techniques being taught.
From a person who wishes to learn boxing for fitness purposes, or for people like myself who compete, this book is a valuable tool.
I highly recommend it.
Customer Rating: Summary: Good For the all around athlete Comment: I'm a soldier currently deployed in Afghanistan (airborne infantry). I ordered the book to try to pick up on a new sport. The pictures and descriptions in the book are very descriptive and very helpful in learning the moves. Although I would consider this a great book for the beginner boxer or someone trying to improve, the lifting section could use alittle more detail. I would also like to see alittle more about nutrition. Other than that, the technique and fundamentals described in this book are excellent.
Customer Rating: Summary: Good introduction Comment: Fighting Fit is a solid introduction for boxing that's easy to follow even if you have no prior experience. Its combination of sparse text and extensive photography is a good way to learn punches, defensive moves, combinations and so on. I have a few minor quibbles that prevent me from giving the book five stars - there's no discussion of the speed bag, and the weight training information is minimal - but all in all it's well worth the price.
