Customer Rating: Summary: This is a very poor unit. Comment: This smoke alarm is an Ionization alarm, which means it sounds more quickly when a flaming, fast moving fire occurs. This is NOT a Photoelectric alarm, which is quicker at sensing smoldering, smoky fires.
If you're looking for an Ionization alarm only, this unit is very poorly built. It's cheap, generic - and in this unit the batteries will die out every 30 days for some reason.
This smoke alarm also has a very annoying sound when it goes off. What's even scarier, is this alarm sounds like a truck backing up!! If you're asleep and you hear this you may just roll over in bed thinking it's coming from outside.
I highly recommend buying one with a dual sensor smoke alarm because we cannot predict what type of fire might start in our homes.
Customer Rating: Summary: Great little alarm at a fantastic price Comment: I wanted to install some extra smoke alarms in my law office and bought 3 of these. They are perfect. About 4 inches in diameter, they were easy to install and are not even noticed by visitors. Each tests fine and I sleep better at night with the extra protection. Great value at under $8 each. 5 stars. Will likely buy more
Customer Rating: Summary: Not legal to sell or install in Oregon Comment: As of January 1, 2002 a new State of Oregon smoke alarm law is in effect. ORS 479.257 states, "Every smoke alarm installed in a dwelling unit regulated under ORS chapter 90, a lodging house or a hotel guest room as required under ORS 479.255, shall contain" the following "features as described in ORS 479.297 (1) and (2)":
* Ionization smoke alarms that are solely battery-operated shall be packaged with a 10-year battery
* All ionization smoke alarms shall include a "hush" mechanism that allows a person to temporarily disengage the alarm for a period of not more than 15 minutes. This also applies to hard-wired smoke alarms.
Customer Rating: Summary: Smoke alarm Comment: I like the smaller size. Nice compact piece of equipment. I can't review how well it works, which is actually a good thing, as it means I haven't needed to use it!! I purchased several of these for my home and my rental property.
Good price.
Customer Rating: Summary: Gets the job done Comment: Not much to say for an economical detector. It has no frills, but its cheap price allows you to install more than would otherwise be the case. My advice is be sure you can easily get at them because when it goes off, you have to take out the battery to stop it. It will go off at the scent of smoke, so be ready for false alarms -- installation location is critical to your sanity.
