Editorial Reviews:

Final Fantasy Anthology incorporates two of the most beloved FINAL FANTASY titles ever published. First released as FINAL FANTASY III in the U.S., FINAL FANTASY VI brings back all of the qualities that made it the best selling RPG of its time, and adds a few bonuses unique to this re-release. The second title in this compilation, FINAL FANTASY V, is seeing its first ever release in the U.S. Featuring an innovative 'Job' system and a story that will take the player to different worlds, this title will finally show U.S. gamers what they have been missing. If you are new to the FINAL FANTASY universe, pick up Anthology as way of getting to know the series that has garnered the praise of millions. If you are already a fan, pick it up to relive the magic once again.

Summary: Dated Gameplay, Masterpiece of Gaming.
Comment: The random encounters get old and fast, though the game is still enjoyable. But that's not the reason this work of art is constantly hailed as the greatest RPG (and sometimes the greatest game) of all time. The story is what keeps this moving. Why? The dialogue often lacks, and pales in comparison to Baldur's Gate, for example. Well, the fact is the Plot, and the characters of this rich, imagination-generating game are unparalled. Who doesn't remember Kefka (or Cefca), the greatest, most hysterically awesome villain of all-time? The gameplay is horribly dated, but hey this game deserves to be made into a CG-film or a wicked anime movie/mini-series at least. No, I've seen some of the manga creations and they're way too j-pop. Stick to this. This game deserves every award and praise it has recieved. The rest of the final fantasy series pales horribly in comparison. Sephiroth? Pah, Kefka is a Barney the Dinosaur arch-villain! What's better than that!?

Summary: For the old school gamers with an attention span
Comment: Final Fantasy VI was a milestone in the RPG world. At the time of it's release the graphics were supurb and used all the resources the Super Nintendo had to offer. Chracter developement was outstanding and the story was excellent. Final Fantasy VI definately lives up to it's name as the best Final Fantasy game. There are people who dislike this game mainly because of its graphics. Many gamers were introduced to the Final Fantasy series through Final Fantasy VII. I can't blame them if they can't follow dialogue or customize weapons, items, and armor and have the attention span to remember what they are doing and where they are going.
Gamers out there that look for games to have dazzling graphics and quick button pressing and fast paced gameply will dislike this game. This game is all for the storyline and customization of it's characters.

Final Fantasy V which was first released in North America in the anthology set is definately worth your time. Compared to VI I found that V is lacking. But you can see the evolution of the Square company through its transitioning games and Final Fantasy V truly marks their effort before the powerful Final Fantasy VI and VII. I rate this game five stars because no less can be given to Final Fantasy VI. Seperately I would have to give Final Fantasy V four stars, mainly because although I enjoyed it I also found it lacking in comparison to VI but comparing games is not how you rate them so I rated this one on the fun I had. If you are going to play FF5 you need to clear your mind of "Well FF6 did this better, or FF7 had better graphics" We must remember that Final Fantasy V came before and we should play it for what it is and admire it as part of this awsome series that keeps changing and evolving.

Summary: Classic
Comment: Final Fantasy Anthology

What classic games. Both Final Fantasy 5 and Final Fantasy 6 are incredible games in the series. I enjoyed playing both of them from start to finish. I do, however, have a few caveats for people interested in buying this game.

-These are direct ports from the Super Nintendo, released in the states in 1991. The graphics are of the time; they aren't the 3D graphics of the PlayStation.

-There are some load-times, which are a little frustrating at times, due to the fact that these were not present in the Super Nintendo release of these games.

-This is a Final Fantasy game. It requires time, patience, and will not necessarily be a walk in the park. You will have to spend time exploring and leveling up. It is inevitable.

I was inspired to write this after reading several ignorant review stating that 'these graphics sux!!' and 'FFVII pwns!!'

These games are well worth the time and effort, as long as you remember you are playing games that are over 10 years old. That is all.

Summary: Gamers get two of the deepest, greatest RPGs ever created
Comment: Gamers get two of the deepest, greatest RPGs ever created for less than the price of a single new game - it's hard to argue with that sort of value. Whether you've waited five years for Final Fantasy V or just finished your first Final Fantasy, the Final Fantasy Anthology is sure to entertain. Jody Bissoon
