While visiting the show, Stella the Storyteller's suitcase of props explodes, and Barney and the kids help repack it. But while giving assistance, they also use the props to tell classic stories: Rumpelstiltskin, Rapunzel, and more. This enjoyable installment in the Barney library may very likely be the place some child viewers will hear these stories for the first time. --Tom Keogh

The children, Stella, Barney and Baby Bop were great, but one part needed some adjusting. I think the part that really need adjusting was when they told Rupunzel. I hated it when the witch got glue in her hair! Ugh! Try seeing if this is good for you! Customer Rating: Summary: Fairy Tales Retold Barney-Style Comment: I'm 19 years old and bored by most Barney episodes but this one has to be the exception.
In case you haven't figured out already, the words "Once Upon a Time" prompt a visit from Stella the Storyteller. Her suitcase of props explodes and Barney, Baby Bop, Carlos, Kristen, Shawn, and Tosha help her repack it. While doing this, the costumed children and dinos act out (in this order): Rumpelstiltskin, Rapunzel, and Goldielocks and the Three Bears.
Like all the Barney videos, this one has songs. My favorites are "The Spinning Wheel", "John Jacob Jingleheimer Smith", "Castles So High," and "Does Your Hair Hang Low". (This is the order the songs are sung in.)
I have watched this video several times, and it holds my interest till the end. Customer Rating: Summary: For Some Reason.. this video scared my 21 month old son Comment: My 21 month old son watches Barney all the time. We own dozens of tapes! Once Upon A Time is our most recent Barney purchase. Five minutes into tape, when Stella the Story teller came on... My son started shaking, crying and grabbing me. He was truly scared! He has seen Stella in many other videos and has never had a reaction like that! He usually enjoys her. I immediately took the tape out and later that day tried again. Same reaction, only stronger! I put in another Barney video featuring Stella the Story Teller (Time for Counting) and he had no problem... danced and laughed along like always. I must say, that I found nothing scary about the tape but since my son is a true Barney fan, I figure that something is not right. I will not show this tape again and do not recommend it to other parents. Customer Rating: Summary: Great tape ! Comment: This is one of the best. Keeps my 19 month old's attention. There's lots of songs and the stories are told in such a nice way. This along with 'sing and dance w/barney' 'Barney's big surprise, 'let's play school', 'Live in NYC', and Barney songs'-- seem to be the best in my 19 month old's opinion and my opinion. These are all well worth the money and are certainly NOT just 'typical' everyday barney TV episodes. I'd say that 'imagination island','sense-sational day' 'adventure bus' and 'alphabet zoo' ARE 'typical' 'everyday' barney episodes and are cute but, in my opinion, certainly are not as much 'well-worth' the money as the other ones I named above.
