Morihei Ueshiba King of Aikido VOLUME II

This exciting historic video is Volume II of a two Volume set. It features spectacular 1960s footage of Morihei Ueshiba (1883-1969), the founder of aikido! It shows shots of O-Sensei performing in his later years when his technique was even more refined. It contains shots of O-sensei teaching and demonstrating and much more! His perfect circular movements and execution of techniques bring his opponents into his dynamic sphere where they are tossed about effortlessly. O-Sensei Morihei Ueshiba is truly the "King of Aikido"! 60 min

Summary: Not an instructional video
Comment: I have been practicing Aikido on and off for 3 years(probably more off than on) I found it to be really interesting to see Ueshiba performing. The grace and power when he has the jo or bokken in his hands are amazing.

Of course, since this video is a compilation of older footage, the visual quality is not very high. The sound quality is miserable. There are no interpretations of Ueshiba speaking; in fact, the entire video is dubbed over with really low-quality music. But perhaps I am too harsh and there was no sound on the original footage to work with.

The entire video is not purely Ueshiba performing. There are a few demonstrations by some of his students(His son? Tohei? I am not exactly sure), and two or three minutes of Ueshiba praying and bowing. There is a cool demonstration of some iaido kata.

Overall, this a good video for those aikidoka who would like to see how the Founder of Aikido performed. It is more a historical document than an instructional tool. If you are a complete beginner, I would recommend instead one of the ukemi videos or a tape that lays out the basics in a clear and organized manner.
