The master of the secret Monkey Fist Kung Fu style must fight a gang of warrior thugs who are terrorizing his village. Shaw legend Chen Kuan Tai (Iron Monkey, Boxer from Shantung) made this film at the height of his fame. As a true exponent of the Monkey Fist style, Chen added authenticity to his movie roles and the characters he portrayed by using elements of his strong foundation in kung fu. Also making his screen debut is Billy Chong (Kung Fu Zombie, Super Power, Crystal Fist). Shot against the backdrop of exotic Indonesia, Invincible Monkey Fist brings you top rate stars and action. This is a world exclusive presentation, and includes a fighting segment long thought deleted.

Customer Rating: Summary: Warning- DVD defect Comment: This DVD has a major problem. When watching the movie, it will automatically change chapters and switch to the insta-action feature. The only way to watch the movie all the way through is to keep the time display on screen and fast forward everytime a chapter ends. You have to fast forward until the next chapter begins. Obviously this becomes very frustrating. What makes it even worse is that the movie is horrible and you will be wondering why you are going through all this trouble just to watch a crappy movie.
Also on the negative side, the running time is only 69 minutes long. There are about 10 scenes where something is going on and they just cut to the next scene. This is just one of many horrible Videoasia DVDs. There is a reason Videoasia DVDs always end up in the dollar bin. They are one of the few companies actually worse than Red Sun.
Now to the story. I know everyone is eager to read this. Billy Chong's father gets killed, and the killer takes over their martial arts school and claims the title of best fighter around. Obviously Billy Chong is mad about this and he starts raising trouble and constantly attacks the villain while wearing a mask. Chen Kuan Tai shows up to town and finds out the villain is the guy who killed his own father, and also took his father's precious sword. Chen Kuan Tai and Billy Chong meet and tell eachother their stories, and then after some training they team up to take down the villain.
Even though there are a lot of questions left unanswered because of the movie being so cut up, the story is still easy to follow. Problem is, the story is extremely boring. The main villain keeps bragging about this special sword he has. He finally unsheathes it and it is just a little dagger. And he only fights with it for about 10 seconds! He may have fought with it longer but there is a cut during one of the most important parts of the movie.
The fighting is decent. Chen Kuan Tai looks good, but Billy Chong doesn't get to do much. The villain is weak.
1.5/5
The picture has all sorts of problems. Overall it is still watchable. It is partly widescreened which is nice.
Customer Rating: Summary: Unexpecte but enjoyable Comment: This film has a misleading title, it is not about Monkey style Kung Fu at all. And that is the good news!! This is actually a fine martial arts drama that takes place in a small village in beautiful/scenic Indonesia. If there was ever a film that should be remastered and restored it is this one, just for the settings alone. Unfortunately film degradation, edits, deleted scenes, choppiness, and bad dubbing have skewed this version of the film.
The story involves Shaw Veteran Chen Kuan-Tai and a young Billy Chong stepping up to bat for an oppressed village. The main villian, who wears a fierce fro is really fleshed out and memorable. In a way, he is the film's real star rather than the heroes. Overall the story is typically about revenge but the locales, costumes, and realistic fighting action sets it apart from many Hong Kong and mainland films from this period.
Customer Rating: Summary: Waste Of Time if you wish to see Monkey Kung Fu Comment: I thought this movie was going to feature top quality monkey kung fu fight scenes, however that was not the case. In this movie Chen Kuan Tai fights using a style which looks very vaguely like Tai Shing Pek Kwar, however his movie Iron Monkey (1977) is much better if you are looking for genuine Tai Shing Pek Kwar. If you are looking for Monkey Kung Fu don't waste your time with this movie, instead check out Monkey Fist Floating Snake and Iron Monkey (Chen Kuan Tai 1977)
Customer Rating: Summary: A rare masterpiece Comment: This rare gem is a lost classic in the martial arts genre. Superstar Chen Kuan Tai veered from his Shaw Bros. studio work for this independent film shot in Indonesia. It also features a young Billy Chong. The film is hosted by Shaws actor Philip Ko Fei,who also demonstrates his martial arts and talks about the film industry.Quite interesting. The real highlight is a great documentary on the Shaw Bros. studio, hosted by David Chiang. This alone is worth the DVD purchase! This film is presented in widescreen, with sound in mono. A great addition to the collection! See my other reviews.
