Customer Rating: Summary: Very nice except the piping Comment: The quality of this product is great for the price. I was hoping it would be an item that my kids might have for several years or more. The main problem is the piping tears easily and once it starts tearing, the kids pull it out. I am going to try to replace the piping, but not sure if I will be able to find the right material.
Also, the lid opens to about 115 degrees or so and I wish it would either open all the way or detach.
My complaints are mainly if you are considering purchasing the product for a child 4 or under, otherwise I have no problem recommending this product.
Customer Rating: Summary: quality instrument; not too heavy Comment: The is a very nice musical instrument, just as the other reviews have stated. I got one for my five-year old niece, who lives in another state. I was a little worried that it might be heavy and therefore expensive to send. But the "Angel" Glockenspiel is pretty light, so it will be a chinch to ship out, and for her to carry it with her. It's pretty sturdy, has an easy to open and there are no loose parts (except for the mallets, of course).
Yes, there are two full octaves, starting with "G" ("Sol"), and I was surprised to find all the sharps and flats, too!
There's also some little stickers with the "do", "re", "mi"-s on them. No music book. I think that by eight years old a child could read some simple music and play tunes. Most should be able to play some easy tunes by imitation and maybe by ear even earlier. I doodled around and played a couple of tunes. The notes ring nice and clear--my husband said that it sounds good, but is rather loud (I was striking the bars firmly with the mallets). If the loudness is a problem for you when your child plays it, try having him or her hold the mallet balls in the hand and play with the ends of the sticks--this produces a soft sound--or try using some other, softer striker.
I am a strong believer in music for children--the earlier the better--and I am very happy to find an instrument like this that is pleasing and easy to use. My niece is going to have a blast!
Customer Rating: Summary: Nice set Comment: I just received this, and have started getting acquainted with it. The sound is nice, the action is nice, and the case is attractive. I was thinking about ordering a xylophone when I came across this. It gives me much more opportunity to be musical! I like the mallets, too.
Customer Rating: Summary: Real nice Comment: I bought this for my one year old instead of a cheapy xylophone that can't be used once she gets older and I love it. The sticks are one piece so no threat of the ball falling off and her choking on it. She bangs the heck out of this thing and it stands up fairly well (She did smash a little bit of its foam deadener, but it still works, hope it won't affect it later). Nice sound and Mom has more fun playing it then the baby I think. Love the fact that it is a "toy" now and will be able to be used for real music when she gets old enough to read music. I do dislike that the cover won't lay down flat, so it looks just like the picture when opened, I do set my music there, but wish I had the option to lay it down flat or take it off.
Customer Rating: Summary: Great deal! Comment: This is a great value. It's incredibly difficult to find a glockenspiel with the sharps and flats that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. Unlike a previous reviewer claims, the notes were not off key. Nor did I have to bend the mallets to remove them from the case. The sound quality is good. For those who are picky about the tones, they can spend more than a mere $15 on a higher quality instrument. This is for my children, ages 2 and 4, the older of whom is on the autism spectrum. Affordable and good quality and unique instruments are a great find for use as music therapy. Since this has all of the notes, we can accompany them using the piano. The vendor shipped immediately and I am completely satisfied.
