Editorial Reviews:

One of Mike Lee Kanarek's favorite subjects! In addition to years of study of various techniques and being trained by seasoned pros, Mike has used his knife in combat and survived multiple encounters. He shows and tells in instructional format how to win and what will make you lose in a knife fight. He also shows why you should always carry a knife (when permitted by law). It is very comprehensive and includes: Concepts & Principals Strategy, Deployment, Footwork & Timing Stances, Grips Strikes - types & form Angles of attack & targets Movement & combination attacks Basic attacks & counter attacks Advanced Tactics Using two knives Multiple attackers Deployment on the ground ... and much, much more

Summary: Quite a decent presentation.
Comment: The information and techniques demonstrated on these two videos are quite well done. It' a bit didactic, e.g., you must hold your knife with your thumb HERE, but the didacticism is, for the most part intelligent. The instructor is clear and easy to understand. He suffers from what so many video martial instructors do, a lack of a sense of humor and a too heavy dose of "I'm a tough guy" personna.

Some may be put off by the viciousness of the counter attacks shown on this set. They usually begin with what Filipino practicioners call defanging the snake, but go on to what are essentially killing blows in all scenarios. Is this really necessary? I suppose it depends on how you view self defense.

For people interested in knife fighting, these are really quite interesting, but I'd suggest Paul Vunak's and Marc MacYoung's videos as excellent counter balances.
