Summary: Really good purchase
Comment: I researched humidifiers, and read the other reviews of lots of products, but ultimately decided on this one. I think the other comments made here are spot on! The cleaning instructions do leave a bit to be desired - they appear to be copied from other models of this same brand, so they are a bit lacking. Also, my two cents would be that if you know you have hard water, make sure you clean this once a week, diligently - or you will have HORRIBLE mineral deposits that are very tough to get off. CLR did work, but it was a big job that required tools and muscle as well. Won't do that again! Clean it every week!
It is quiet, and really works well.
I recommend this product - we bought two!

Summary: Works fine but you need to clean regularly
Comment: Purchased this unit and have had no problems. The digital humidity indication is a nice feature. I use it with regular tap water and have found that it should be cleaned frequently for best results, especially the heating plate. I got lazy and let it go for about a 10 days and had quite a bit of mineral deposits on the heating plate (calcium due the tap water). It was a real pain to clean. I would say clean after every 2 or three days to start and see how things go. Water in different locations will have different mineral content and affect how often cleaning is needed.

The pads that come with the unit will not stop the build-up, just slow it down. I have found that CLR works well, just let its sit for a while and no scrubbing is needed if you don't let the mineral deposits get a foothold. Just rinse well. I do not think CLR is recommended in the manual but it seems to work. Vinegar may work as well and is mentioned in the manual I believe.

Finally I found a great round vegetable brush at Target that fits really well if you need to scrubb. Its about 2.5 - 3" in diameter and is red (of course) with white bristles.

Summary: good product but there are lemons
Comment: I bought 2 of these humidifiers. Like some of the other reviews I've read about, one of them just stopped working. I've sent it back, which was no trouble at all with the help of Amazon's return system, and I hope to receive another one some. It's a good product, I just got a lemon. However, upon saying that, I would buy another one of any brand from a retail store if I could find one.

Summary: Good, but touchy
Comment: We have owned this type of humidifier for 2 years now, and had to return the first to the manufacturer once for free replacement due to a crack somewhere in the heating plate.

While it does a magnificent job humidifying 500 sq. ft. in our little apartment, it is very touchy. filling the tank in the morning and filling it before bed will keep a constant stream of steam going in our house. You have to keep the metal heating plate clean, change the plate filter once a week (we have a lot of minerals in our water supply) and the unit has to be completely dry after cleaning the plate to function properly. Once you learn the quirks, it's easy to opperate. But the simple cut and dry instructions the manual gives makes it sound easier than it is.

While I can't say I would highly recommend this unit to anyone, the company was good at standing by their warranty and I haven't found any warm mist humidifiers (even in other price ranges) that work as long as these ones before giving out. I would not recommend a unit of this size for those that have trouble listing two gallons of milk at a time (or one for that matter), nor for someone with toddlers and crawlers. There is no "guard" on the steam vent and thus, dangerous to pets and small children.

Summary: So far, so good - what a difference for a dry house in winter!
Comment: I'm jumping the gun writing this after buying 2 of these from Amazon just one week ago, but both have been running non-stop with no problems for one week.

Before using these units, our house was at 23% humidity - awful!

One unit is in our second floor master bedroom. We keep the door shut & fill this unit once daily with it running non-stop & set to low or medium and 45% humidity.

The other unit is on the first floor & is covering approximately 1500 sq ft with a 2-story foyer which doesn't help. The foyer opens to 2 other rooms with no doors. We just put a small, cool mist unit in the dining room that requires 40% humidity for our piano in there. Because this room opens to both the foyer & kitchen, some of this room's humidity is likely getting into the foyer & kitchen. (I give all this info to try to help you compare coverage) Bottom line - the new warm mist unit is getting a bit of help via the humidity from the dining room.
All that being said, the 1st floor warm mist unit was placed in the dryest room, far from the dining room. At first, we tried it on high & 40% humidity, but it needed to be filled 3 times/day to get to 40%. We are now trying it on low & 40%, hoping for less refills. As of tonite it is reading 35% humidity, so the low setting is probably not enough for this large space meaning we probably have try it on medium & see how that does.

All family members (4) living here have noticed a BIG difference. And we only went from 23% to 35-38% (downstairs). We like the operation even if we have to refill often. The comfort is worth it.
