"Digital Experiments in Aikido" documents Adaptive Perception's groundbreaking use of digital motion capture technology with the martial art of Aikido. It is not an instructional video, but rather an experiment in recording and visualizing the art. The first part of the video follows each step of the process, from dojo to computer screen. Senior Aikidoists are recorded wearing special markers under infrared cameras. Animated graphics then help explain how visualizations are created from the resulting data. The second part consists of 20 minutes of computer animations of the captured techniques, presenting Aikido in innovative ways not possible with normal photography. Finally, the team presents its conclusions on the current and future potential of using motion capture with Aikido.
