Customer Rating: Summary: The Best Guidebook to Tantui Boxing in English Comment: Sometimes called Muslim Boxing because it is popular among Muslims in North China, Tantui, or Dan-dwee, means "leg snapping", and is a form of Northern Chinese boxing which relies heavily upon the legs. Many styles include a 10 or 12 movement Tantui form as a type of supplemental training. Indeed the inclusion of other methods and styles is a hallmark of the Ching Woo Athletic Association. Chan explains this in the Introduction to Tantui on pages 2-3.
Here the series of 12 movements is divided into 2 groups, 6 upper-leg movements, and 6 lower movements. These aren't simply ways of kicking, they are sequences of movements each consisting of 10-20 photographs with descriptions in Chinese and English (no worries, the English is understandable). An attractive feature of this book is the fact that Chan and fellow demonstrator Hui Tin-hing show each series alone, and then as a 2-man set.
The labeling of the photos is clear, and with the instructions easy to understand. A well-executed volume which covers all of the necessary elements.
