Editorial Reviews:

Shakbo Dak is a lethal fighting art brought to America from Africa by U.S. Army soldiers. Shakbo Dak is considered by many to be the world's most lethal art (which might explain the U.S. Government's reluctance to authorize mass release of the techniques). This incredible manual shows dozens of deadly techniques in a step-by-step format. This manual is definitely not for the faint of heart! Shakbo Dak is not a sport. It is a truly lethal art designed for injuring/killing. Not recommended for children under 18 years.

Summary: If I could have given it less than One star, I would have
Comment: As a martial artist with 25 plus years experience, I was skeptical..and I should have gone with my instincts. Shakbo Dak is no more than a a few beginner self defense techniques borrowed from a few different arts, such as Muay Thai, karate, and jujitsu. Nothing in the whole book is unknown to anyone with basic self defense experience. It is all hype. I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone I consider a friend.

Summary: Sneaky stuff
Comment: I was interested in this book because I thought Capoiera was the only martial art from Africa. This stuff is actually on the far end of the spectrum opposite Capoiera! It isn't so much a martial art (if you think of martial arts in the traditional karate sense of the term); it is more like street fighting. Eye gouges, strikes to crush the windpipe, and the like are utilized, so it is not something you would want to use on a drunk at a party. Unless, of course, that drunk was trying to kill you! The only thing I didn't like was the fact that the author wastes a few pages preaching ethics. As if some guy who has written a book on killing people with you bare hands has any right to preach. But I give it 5 stars anyway for a few methods of crippling an opponent that I learned which would otherwise never had occurred to me.
