Editorial Reviews:

Kotani, Ishikawa, Daigo, Fukoda, Mifune and many of the old masters are highlighted in this terrific old footage of Classical Judo Masters. Forty Eight Judo great Sensei’s show it all.

Five 10th dans and all the major champions of Japanese Judo from 1948 to 1956 are featured in this monumental DVD. You will see them perform their art to perfection and only then will you understand why Judo is the basis of modern martial arts.

Shot on film by Hal Sharp this high quality footage is first generation and has never been seen by the public since it was originally shot over 50 years ago in Japan.

Hal will tell you first hand stories of each of these masters from his own experience and thank God it has not been lost to the annals of time and is now being made available to the public.

These legendary Judoka are poetry in motion and after watching it personally I could only say WOW!

Summary: Wow, what a video
Comment: Everyone who does judo should see this video of what judo was like in the 50's in Japan. At the Kodokan there were several living 10th dans and other masters, Judo Championships were just starting, a new self-defense kata was just being created, and judo was being introduced to visiting foreigners at a time when the popularity of judo around the world was exploding. This video gives you a glimpse of how judo evolved. It is narrated by Hal Sharp with personal stories, and segments are expanded in other DVD's in the series.
