Spotlight customer reviews:
Customer Rating: Summary: Less charge time, less mess, more capability, and more vacuum power!! Comment: Being that my previous Norelco trimmer (a T770) took 10 hours to fully charge, I greatly liked how the T980 took just 70 minutes to do the same thing. And I just LOVE the mini-beard trimmer attachment!! Now I can trim my beard line, mustache and sideburn hair (with the help of vacuum power) without having to worry about a HUGE mess to clean up!! And the turbo power option? The 30% increase in vacuum power it provides helps out in situations where you have to hold the T980 in contorted, odd positions to get the job done (i.e. upside down), and you don't want hair that's being cut coming out of the device.
In short, the Norelco T980 is a BIG improvement over the trimmer that I used to have!! And the price was pretty damn reasonable, too!! I definitely feel that I got my money's worth when I purchased this product!! Customer Rating: Summary: Does a good job. Comment: I purchased this trimmer for the features, the price and after reading Amazon reviews to help with my decision. I find its better to trim with the direction of hair on my face with any trimmer unlike the instructions with this trimmer say. Other than that I like the length settings and the trimmer does a very clean job. The vacuum does well to keep the sink clean, only leaving the occasional hair and is easy to empty. The contour following comb doesn't seem to hurt or help performance. I've only had the trimmer one month and am looking forward to seeing how well the SteelWave self-sharpening blades stay sharp as I tend to neglect oiling my trimmers. Over all a great value and I highly recommend this purchase.
Customer Rating: Summary: Best Trimmer I've Ever Owned Comment: I have been using the T980 for over 3 months now, and I'm very pleased with it. It gives a superior, even beard and mustache trim, glides smoothly across without snagging, and catches most (yes, not ALL) your clippings. As others warn, it can trim pretty close if you set the dial too low, I found out the hard way with a "2" and eventually settled on "4" for my setting. I am not a fan of the trimmer when you take the guard off, I still prefer my old Norelco for this, and I do wish it had a nose/ear trimmer also, but these are minor gripes. Overall a great product and a highly recommended product. Customer Rating: Summary: Good Overall- Two main flaws Comment: This is a good product overall but I found two flaws, that seem to concur with other reviewers complaints. I like to trim my face close, on the 2/3 setting.
1)The length-dial clicks out of place while you are trimming. This happens at least once during each shave, usually when shaving the left side of my face (I am right handed). So if you are on the 2 setting and you apply pressure on the face, it jumps down to 1. I have been holding the dial with my index finger. Kind of annoying. Also there is significant play (wiggle room) in the dial itself. Odd, and annoying.
2) It is nearly impossible to get the area under the nose/above the lip with the guard on, its just too bulky...Overall, good power, never pulls hairs, sharp blades, and the vaccum does its job for the most part. Customer Rating: Summary: Overall a great trimmer with 1 exception Comment: I've been using a Norelco beard trimmer for years. I bought the first T100 which used 2 AA batteries. I've seen the improvements over the years and they have definitely added to how well the products functioned. Right off the bat I'll tell you my exception. This beard trimmer was made in China. That might not matter at all to some and you are entitled to your opinion. But it matters to me and I was slightly disappointed to see that they are not being made in Austria anymore.
Other than that, I am impressed with this trimmer. The turbo vacuum system works great. I have not had to clean my bathroom sink even once. The self-sharpening blades no longer need to be lubricated with oil. Ever though this unit is slightly bigger than my last one (T990)it is not more awkward in my hands. Even the Accu Control System's flexing guide comb is easier to clean than the last one.
I do have to recharge the battery after 2 or 3 uses but it does have a quick charge feature that takes about 1 hour. So I can't really complain about that.
I have not noticed any problems with actually trimming my beard. The 9 lockable length settings have not slipped for me as others have reported (I am currently using a number 4). I have not had any problems with trimming under my nose but I have been used to using a Norelco.
Some trimmers are still made in the USA like Wahl but some of the features in this Norelco I have not found in other trimmers like the vacuum trimmer feature. If this Norelco was still made in Austria I would have given it a 5 star rating. But other than that it is a good beard trimmer and I am enjoying using it.
