Editorial Reviews:

From the award-winning director of Comic Book Confidential and Grass comes Tales Of The Rat Fink, Ron Mann’s wildly inventive bio about Renaissance man Ed "Big Daddy" Roth, who engineered a shift in mid-twentieth century culture with his customized cars, "monster" T-shirts and America’s alternative rodent—"Rat Fink".

Mann’s largely animated documentary-style film features the voice talents of:

• John Goodman 8-time Emmy® Nominee (The Big Lebowski)
• Ann-Margret Academy Award® Nominee (Carnal Knowledge)
• Jay Leno
• Brian Wilson (The Beach Boys)
• Stone Cold Steve Austin
• Tom Wolfe (author of The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test)
• Matt Groening (creator of "The Simpsons")
• The Smothers Brothers
• And many more!

SPECIAL FEATURES:

• Big Daddy Lives! — Rare interviews with Ed "Big Daddy" Roth
• Rat Fink Reunion — Painting jam with Ed Roth and Von Dutch
• Big Daddy's Garage — Virtual art gallery
• Interview with director Ron Mann
• Deleted scene
• Theatrical trailer
• The Sadies music video

Summary: Nice job on capturing the spirit of Ed Roth
Comment: As a fan of Kustom Kulture, I enjoyed this unique collaborative as a tribute to one of it's most influential and commercially successful icons. While it was not a complete biography, it did capture the spirit of Ed Roth which lives on through his work and his fans.

There are so few of the original "kings" of Kustom Kulture living today (like master pin striper Lyle Fisk shown on the film's "bonus features" and kustom builder George Barris) while most of the kulture's founders (Von Dutch, Boyd Coddington and many others in addition to Bid Daddy) have passed. I would love to see a feature-length documentary on the history of Kustom Kulture and how that kulture is alive and well today.

Summary: I saw this on cable - it's KILLER!
Comment: I have never bought a video as a download, but I am considering it on this - I saw this twice on cable and it's a very well done and informative video on the life and creations of Ed "Big Daddy" Roth, complete with (of course) lots of appreances of "Rat Fink". I couldn't believe how many designs in modern culture were based on his work - this is a great gift idea for any 60's culture or car collector!

Summary: A Drag Race down Memory Lane
Comment: I was a junior high school aspiring Rat Fink born in SoCal and living about 10 miles West of Maywood during the Roth era. Having been around car enthusiasts at the time we went to the car shows and saw Roth's creations. We built the Revell models and bought the T-shirts. We were the hippest. Later we built our own cars. This dvd is all about SoCal car/surf culture at its peak. Wherever car enthusiasts are cruising with their rides of glory and looking really crazy, the spirit of Big Daddy lives on.

Summary: Nice bio of Ed Roth.
Comment: A good little film about Ed Roth. If you like Ed Roth's work or think you might like Ed Roth's work, watch this DVD. I like the special feature with Von Dutch, Ed, and others painting a truck. And there is also an interveiw with Ed Roth done some time in the 1970's I would guess. All and all, a good purchase for Ed Roth fans.

Summary: The Fink Stinks
Comment: Admired the man and his art, however, this movie isn't terribly illuminating. It has the quality of a high school film project.
