Customer Rating: Summary: Ouch! Ouch! Comment: A rugged and sharp weapon. Otherwise, I have not enjoyed this piece of gear in the least. Within 6 hours of having it in my possession I gigged the living hell out of myself, bled everywhere, went into shock, and passed out. Now, I admit, I was jacking around with a live blade and not concentrating fully on what I was doing. So I deserved it, bad on me.
Three weeks later, during a bona fide Knife Training session, I gigged myself in almost the same place! Again, I bled freely, and got a little nauseous, but did not fall unconcious. As a black belt martial artist, I am not accustomed to injuring myself repeatedly with my own weapon! In speaking with a couple of Marine Martial Arts Instructor Trainers they confirmed what a friend had suggested....
THE BLADE OF THIS KARAMBIT IS TOO LONG!!!
The blade is also a little too straight which lends itself to self-injury.
In talking with a friend who holds a black belt in several systems, including Escrima, I discovered that the Karambit needs to be more like the claw of a tiger than this knife is shaped.
I do not recommend this knife even for individuals who have been trained to use a knife in combat. I would only fight with this weapon in an extreme emergency and I would not attempt to maneuver, extend, or "flip" it at any time while engaged in a fight.
Customer Rating: Summary: Decent Comment: This folding karambit has no safety and it's harder to close than the other folding knives I have. Since it's a folding knife, it can only be 1 sided and therefore not well suited for self defense (karambits are double-edged when it's a fixed blade). However, it will work well as a utility knife and it is priced reasonably.
Customer Rating: Summary: Karambit Comment: Excellent Blade, beautiful knife, my only concern is the liner lock. Under actual use, practicing with the knife, at least once now, with your hand directly over the liner lock during a downslice, the lock failed (well, not failed, but the position of my hand slipped enough on the knife while cutting through a hanging pig that it released the lock on recovering my stance) and the blade nearly closed on me. I have a small cut from it, fortunately there was no pressure on the backside of the blade to cut me deeply.
I have practiced with it a lot more and haven't had that problem since, but this was my first non-fixed blade karambit. I think I'm going to stick to fixed blades.
