Summary: A South Korean Gem
Comment: Once Upon A Time In High School is a captivating movie about life at a private high school in South Korea. The movie is chocked full of masculine teen angst, but offers new perspectives for American audiences. This movie has breaths of originality.
The main character is "the new kid at school" who struggles to assimilate to the brutal natures of the socially Darwinistic school. While this story has been told several times in other movies, Once Upon A Time In High School paints a vivid picture of these characters lives more skillfully than a lot of big production high school pictures that saturate the market.
There are some rough edges, such as the lightning quick personality transformation of some of the characters and patches of vulgarities that seem gratuitous.
This movies deserves more attention in American and is well worth seeing. The climatic fight scene at the end of the movie is spectacular.
