Xing yi quan is one of the major internal (neijia) Chinese martial arts. Xing yi quan translates approximately to Shape/Mind Boxing, and is characterized by seemingly simple movements and explosive power. The 5 Element Fists (wu xing or 5 xing) are the foundation for building speed, Power, breathing, and stamina. The practice of these 5 exercises is designed to develop a martial artists skill and understanding of Chinese Kung Fu.Master Liu Xioaling is a highly skilled and respected teacher of Xingyiquan, and is well known in his native China for his skill and excellent instruction in this traditional Chinese art.
The DVD is broken up by each of the 5 elements with English subtitles and English voiceover. (Pi, Zuan, Beng, Pao, and Heng.) each one has a submenu containing these categories: Introduction; Front view; Legwork/stepping Hand details; Dantian movement/Breathing; Line Drill w/Variations. There is also a SanTi standing section that contains similar details plus theory. In the applications section there is a submenu for each of the 5 Fists they include many strikes, parry, and takedowns. There is one particular take down towards the end involving Heng Quan or crossing countering a kick that is really effective.
We have previews of this video on youtube. Do a search for Xingyi DVD and watch the trailer.
Xing means the shape and it comes first. Yi means the minds intent which is developed later. However, as you become proficient your minds intent will respond more quickly. As your mind and movements become coordinated, your response to an attack will become second nature.

Customer Rating: Summary: Good Material....language is shaky. Comment: The demos on this video are good and the material is great. The only complaint I have is with the audio. To get it play in english in some sections is difficult...you have to play around with the settings for it to go right.
Customer Rating: Summary: I must agree Comment: This dvd, along with the Ted Mancuso's bagua#1 dvd, are the two best martial arts dvd's I've seen. There is a lot of convincing and clear application footage. A few tips: You have to occasionally click the "language" button on your player to keep English subtitles working and it is not obvious that the 5 elements picture on the right is part of the menu.
Customer Rating: Summary: Excellence!!!!!!!!!! Comment: This is one of the most in depth works on a portion of Xingyiquan that I have ever seen.
Lui puts so much time and effort into Santi (The basic stance) and the five elements (The core of the art) that it makes it a JOY to watch.
GREAT,.......GREAT,....GREAT!!!!
A MUST HAVE FOR STUDENTS OF XINGYIQUAN!!!

Customer Rating: Summary: The Best Xingyi Quan DVD Available Comment: This is one of the best martial arts DVDs and the best Xingyi Quan DVD I have seen. To begin with, this is one of the few martial arts videos that takes advantage of the potential of the format. Rather than simply being a video tape on a disc, the material is broken down into logical components for easy reference and viewing.
The skill of the teacher, Liu Xiao Ling, is very apparent and he is forthcoming with the material. He goes into the details that are so important for the correct execution of the movements. I also like his style of presentation. He has a very relaxed way about him and is not at all dogmatic. I hope he and his production team will continue to put out such excellent materials.
