Summary: A Sober Look at Drunken Boxing
Comment: Most people in martial arts know the Drunken Boxing which is often performed for demonstrations. This branch is less performance and more martial arts. In the midst of a snow covered landscape, Mr. Ripski and his students demonstrate the Drunken Shadow Boxing, a fundamental set for their style. They also show specialized Drunken warm ups , kicks, strikes, Qigong and applications: all in the Drunken manner. The narration is excellent, clear and intelligent. The form is a nice intermediate level challenging set with drunken flavor throughout. There is little emphasis on gymnastics and much on usage. This is a good introduction to what Drunken Fist was like before it became a tournament dance. The thing I really like about Mr. Ripski's approach is that he is always searching for the traditional and doesn't give in to easy flash.
