Summary: It is outdated version. New version is available.
Comment: Kubuntu and Ubuntu always get my best words but version 8.10 (released on October 30, 2008) is already available:
Kubuntu Ubuntu Ver. 8.10 and Linux Training Library 2DVD+CD

Summary: A nice integration of a real operating system
Comment: Linux has come to an amazing level of maturity, and the Ubuntu family (Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Xubuntu, Edubuntu, etc.) are very pleasant options of Linux to use, very well integrated and useful. From easy installation, auto-detection of internet connection, painless updates, very useful GUIs, and a huge number of applications available make you think about all those chores about defragmenting, cleaning virus and spam from your hard disk and reinstalling software a thing of the past.

Even upgrades from one version to the next one (e.g., 7.10 to 8.04) are done through the internet in a simple process almost automatically! This would be one of those rare cases in which you'll need to reboot after installing software (it's and upgrade after all).

It's amazing to me that all you'll need is in a single CD and from there you repartition hard drives, install dual-boot options (even two or more Linux distributions coexisting with Windows and booting from the same initial menu, all drivers for almost anything included in the CD or easily accessed through the internet, and an incredible number of applications included (Office suites, internet browsers, email applications, money managers, music, video, and movie players; games, etc., etc.) and everything highly configurable and modifiable.

From a financial viewpoint it's an incredible bargain, in which for a few bucks you'll have a powerful operating system and applications that just now, other software development companies have started to realize the Linux advantage in design and developmental process.

From a legal stand, it's one of the beauties of the modern world, because you don't have to keep track of each "serial number" of the program that was installed on what computer, like the restrictive EULA (End User License Agreement) from Microsoft and other software companies that don't give you much rights about how to use the software. The EULA restricts installation to a single computer, and it even limits your right to make copies and backups.

The General Public License (GPL) under which Linux is released (including all Ubuntu flavors) allows you to use the software in any way you see fit. From one CD you can legally install the software to an unlimited number of computers. There are no serial numbers and no "genuine windows (dis)advantage" that slows down your computer in an attempt to validate your serial number as "authentic". Just these features should be enough for a bunch of people to chose Linux (any Linux) over other operating systems.

In summary, it's a powerful real multi-tasking OS, with incredible versatility and flexibility, extremely low cost (even when buying support), reliability, stability (measured in months or years with no downs and crashes, instead of hours or days), and many, many applications for anything you may want to do.

I have Ubuntu installed in my desktop, Kubuntu in my laptop (after deleting Vista), and Xubuntu in a netbook. What else I can say? After many years of using Windows I have switched completely to Linux. I don't miss Windows at all!

Summary: kubuntu heads and shoulders over microsoft
Comment: Everything, from the ease in installing to its unencumbered desktop and its small footprint place KUbuntu (Ubuntu with a KDE interface) heads and shoulders above any of Microsofts OS's with only ONE EXCEPTION, it's cost.
I strongly recommend that anyone interested in kissing the Blue Screen of Death goodbye obtain this software.

Summary: Great Linux distro...
Comment: I'm long time Linux user and for two years used ubuntu and decided give a try to kubuntu. KDE grew into very cool experience! As I wasn't sure which one I'm gonna stay with, I ordered Kubuntu, Ubuntu and Linux Training Library 2DVDs+CD and it actually provides both! Enjoy! It is awesome Linux distro, real cutting edge! The graphics real cool and advanced, the software bundled etc. I'm still missing decent video editing for Linux... may be something decent soon? The control is effortless, no bug s so far... Terrific!
Ubuntu and Kubuntu are the only complete, not stripped down versions! Highly recommended!
