Summary: Love It!
Comment: There are a few questionable songs but overall I love it. I think Howard is getting an undue bum rap simply because he is an actor (turned singer). I read that he was a singer/songwriter prior to acting. People should just listen to the music and not compare it to current trite R & B.

Summary: Not blown away, but....
Comment: I've always known that Terrence could play piano and guitar, but had no idea that he "sang" too. I actually bought the CD on the premise of it being an instrumental/jazz fare. Hearing him sing was weird to me, it was very unexpected. I agree with most of the posters that his vocal stylings aren't that great, but they aren't THAT bad either. Like someone else said "Practice makes perfect". I think he just needs to find his niche if he is going to continue to sing. Instrumentally-speaking, the CD is good. I like the Bossa Nova, and big band sounds on this, and "Spanish Love Affair" really showcases his guitar-playing. I do, however, love "War". Somehow, his way of singing and the music, meshed very well together on that cut. So all was not lost.

Summary: Mixed feelings
Comment: This album is an interesting mix of good and bad. Howard fails as a vocalist, but shines on guitar. His lyrics tend to be cheesy, so the best tracks are the instrumentals. Overall, it's an OK album, but you have to wait until about halfway through until it gets any good.

Summary: Middle of the Road....
Comment: I am judging soley based on previewing the album. First of all I'm a huge Terrance Howard Fan. Every movie I have seen him in he played his role with perfection. I remember him in the movie where Morris Chestnut was the football star getting married to Mia...and it was there where I first heard him play his guitar. The man is quite talented and I knew the album was coming so I was quite anxious to hear it. Having previewed it only, I have to say that if this album was done in an instrumental version it would be on myself and I'd be handing it out to all of my friends!!!! Shine Through it needs no singing at all to for me to dig it...and I believe the rest of the album does superbly without vocales as well. But all in all, Terrance its not a bad start. Practice makes perfect..

Summary: Not a Bad Start
Comment: The actor Terence Howard has ventured into the music form, with this, his debut album. According to the man himself, music is his first love, and if it came to having to choose between acting & music, music would always win out. So, what does he offer us, as a way to see if he is as talented a musician, as he is a actor.
Well, firstly there's his voice. On many reviews I have read around the web, he has been castigated for his singing voice, which I think is a little harsh. Bob Dylan and Lou Reed are two artists that, to my ears, haven't got the greatest voices in the world, but that doesn't stop them from having success and award selling albums. To these ears his voice suits the music on offer.
And to me that is the problem, the music on offer. Whilst not awful, there's not much here that stands out. Whilst it's pleasant sounding, it all kind of blends into a much ness. The exception to this rule and my favourite track on offer here is 'Spanish Love Guitar' in which Terence show cases his skills on said guitar. This is a lovely moment that I kept on repeat for a while, enjoying the soothing sound.

I do hope that this isn't Mr. Howard one & only shot at a musical and that Sony back him with the means to produce a sophomore album. This CD hints at more to come.
