On the birthday of the United States Air Force, all Army Air Corps resources to include airbases and personnel would be transferred to the new aerospace service. Army Military Police would become Air Police. The nuclear era and cold war would transform Air Police into Security Police, the new emphasis being Security. 1997 brings new re-organization to reflect the emphasis on Force Protection and Anti-Terrorism. Currently, the missions of Law Enforcement, Aircraft Security, and Air Base Defense are incorporated into the versatile and modern USAF Security Forces.

Customer Rating: Summary: Good book for people interested in SF Comment: The title is very truthful it is a brief history and does not really go in depth but its a very nice overview of the history of Air Force's Security Forces. Customer Rating: Summary: Great Book Comment: This book is great for anyone who is interested in the usaf security forces. It tells about the history and the missions they preform. It tells you about the the options security forces members have like the k9 program and the counter sniper school. This is also the only usaf security forces book I have seen. I have wanted to join the security forces for some time but now I can't want to join! Customer Rating: Summary: Randell Akins Comment: This book was very informative on the basic history of Air Force SFS. I am a veteran of the Air Force, and worked in a Security Forces squadron so this was good stuff. Thanks!! Customer Rating: Summary: I guess I was hoping for more.... Comment: I suppose the operative term here that I failed to give sufficient credence to is "brief" as in "brief history." The book left me wanting more. More specific information, better quality photographs. The weapons section completely omits the 90mm Recoilless Rifle as a base defense weapon used by Security Police and trained in up to at least the early 1980's. The .50 Caliber Machine Gun has been around since 1918, not the 1930's. The USAF Security Police/Security Forces have an impressive history and much of it was glossed over. I understand that all books cannot be all things to all people, but it seems to me that the research lacked breadth and depth in many areas. This book represents a good start towards something that really needs to be done and done well. That is the book I thought I was buying. Customer Rating: Summary: Old AP/SP in Florida Sounds Off: Comment: This has got to be the best book on AP/SP/SF history out there. Since it may be the only such book out there, let's say, it's time has come. The author has filled a vast void on the subject by ambitiously and proudly recounting the legacy of tradition, while connecting past to present. This book will appeal to veterans and our troops "in country", alike. The "Bond" is 'fortified', forevermore! If you've "Been There, Done Dat", it's a must read. If yer beret is still fuzzy, it's a must read, to see what ya got yersef into, and the big bootprints that lead the way. Of course, the book is not whole story. There are holes to fill and bigger story to tell. This is more like a primer for the AP/SP/SF history that gets the story started. If it catches on and inspires chatter and motivates more of the same, then the whole story, the good, the bad and the ugly, will be told. Kudos to the author. How he managed to publish the book while serving duty in this day of days is an amazing accomplishment. Hand, Salute!
