Customer Rating: Summary: MY FIRST LAPTOP Comment: 5 stars *****---not 2**
This is my very first laptop-or netbook-or mini-laptop. I did alot of research before purchase. My needs were simple. Small enough to take along that doesen't weigh you down, but with a screen big enough to see comfortably. I was originally looking for a kimble reading device--decided a small computer would be more versatile for the same money, and it is. I was also originally looking at its smaller brother- the 7 inch screen- but then found this 10 inch big brother. Perfect for my needs and gives a whole screen shot. I have the larger 6 cell battery that doesn't really give you 7 hrs of time, more realistically 4-5. It reads e-books just like a sony or kimble, but can do everything a laptop can do as well, just a little bit bigger. Not as powerful or as fast as a big laptop, but suits my needs to pick up e-mail, surf the net, research, plays music and videos, the speaker is not bad for a little thing, but for great sound just plug in headphones. Not a loud fan. I don't even notice it and I'm bothered by ticking clocks, and sounds like that in the background. The one I have has 80 gigabytes of hard drive, bluetooth and wireless wifi which works off my husbands wireless modem and public wifi. I have had this for 2 months, and have only used less than 40 gigs of memory. You can add an external Hard drive. The only drawback is no slot for cd or dvd. You can get an external one though.
I'm very happy with my purchase. No regrets.
5 stars*****---not 2** Customer Rating: Summary: Size fits needs. Comment: The Asus 1000H fits my needs well. I am a fulltime student and the battery life keeps up with a full day of classes. I run "Open Office" with XP to accomplish my class work. The 1.6 GHz processor, 2 GB ram, and 80 GB laptop drive provides plenty of room with space to spare. Its connectivity with networks whether hardwired or wireless allows internet access across the campus. And it is light weight.
Customer Rating: Summary: Great Buy! Comment: This product is great! I added my own software once I got it and use it for work and home. Highly recommend! Customer Rating: Summary: ASUS in Paris Comment: I bought the ASUS for my daughter Andrea, who was about to start a three-month assignment in France and who needed to replace her four-year old Compaq laptop, which weighed a ton. Until then, Andrea had not been a big fan of technology. But she tells me that now -- for the first time ever -- she makes a point of going around showing off her new ASUS PC because "it's so cute!" It also seems to work well; the display is easy to read; a battery charge lasts a long time; and it comes with the XP operating system, which she prefers to Vista. It's also very comfortable with European power supplies -- which the seller seemed to doubt. And it was an excellent value. Customer Rating: Summary: a thing of beauty Comment: A thing of beauty is how I would describe this laptop. I've had little or no problems with it so far. I managed to get the wireless up and going within a few minutes of taking it out of the box. I love the keyboard. I much prefer it to the sticky large keys on my desktop. (I do have small hands). The small screen does take a bit of getting used to but I use the laptop primarily as a wordprocessor. The screen is excellent. On the downside I would say the touchpad is a bit oversensitive and the click buttons are way too stiff. The keyboard itself is biased to the left side so that my right hand is usually pointed to the upper left corner while typing. Another negative is the heat generated by the laptop and the user is warned not to actually place on your lap! (Why call it a laptop then?)Its a concern for me as I live in the tropics and it averages 35C these days. (I don't know what that is in Farhrenheit. Go figure it out my American friends.) I have a CoolPad from my now dead iBook (and Steve Jobs hasn't encouraged me to spend $1200 on a new one and what?! no Firewire!!). Finally, I've managed to get a little less than 6 hrs with the wireless switched off. Its pretty good for me but not near the 7hrs claimed by the manufacturers. One more thing- the audio is crystal sharp! Seems to go hand in hand with the ebony piano finish.
