Japanese Warrior Prints 1646195 is the first publication in the English language devoted entirely to the most neglected of the major genres in the history of Ukiyo-e: musha-e or images of warriors. These works recreate in vivid detail the tales of great heroes and battles of Japanese history, especially from the tenth through sixteenth centuries.

Customer Rating: Summary: lost in translation Comment: The book is a finely researched view at warrior prints, in which every piece receives its proper background and explanation. Unfortunately, it's very scope kills the pleasure of viewing it; japanese prints are all about detail - in fabric pattern, armour and weapon decoration etc, and you just won't see any of it in this book, because the reproductions are too small. A lot of page space is lost, and the indispensable text takes up most of what is left, with the result that the primary and ultimate pleasure of the art, the viewing of it, is lost.
