Editorial Reviews:

A four-disc RPG epic, The Legend of Dragoon is set in a time of swords, magic, and dragons. Ten thousand years prior, the Dragon War pitted Dragoons--humans with the power to control dragons--against Enslavers, magicians who sought to enslave the humans. Now Dart, a young warrior, is on a quest to find the demon that killed his parents. The Legend of Dragoon features prerendered, 3-D backgrounds and detailed, polygonal figures. Several nonplaying characters and many full-motion video scenes take you through the complex story. The game's turn-based battle engine allows you to increase the strength of an attack through repeated button taps and shows the percentage increase you've created. A timing feature in the battle modes allows you to add devastating combinations to your attacks. The Spirit Points you accumulate during your quest can be used to unlock a special power, known as the Dragon attack.

Summary: not too shabby
Comment: Though touted as the final fantasy killer (why must all new hyped products be the (blank) killer?) this game falls well short of that. However don't let that stop you from playing it if you are a fan of japanese rpgs. The many flaws this game has can be overlooked since the battle system is generally engaging, fresh compared to other rpgs, overall good graphics, and a good way to pass the time in between more hyped games.
Some of the flaws include kinda weak graphics regarding the characters themselves, though background and cutscenes are really well done, odd monster designs, and linear nature of the game. The last point being a con for some people and a pro for others who want a straightforward adventure.

Summary: Best old school game in a new gen era!
Comment: Legend of Dragoon is by far a great RPG game even in the world of next gen. The game is somewhat of a turn based style game with great magic. You get to turn into powerful creatures called Dragoons that can wield great magic and devastating attacks. The game is 4 disks long, but overall it feels somewhat short. I give it 5 out of 5!

Summary: How can you NOT love this?
Comment: This was the game that got me interested in RPGs. I had seen or played a little of FF 7 and 8, and didn't care much (though I have since gone back and now dig both of them). Then, when this came out, I took a chance and bought it. I was immediately hooked! I played this game every minute I could (losing plenty of sleep) until the end. And when it was over, I wanted more. I remember being nearly moved to tears while watching the conclusion, wrap-up, and credits. Since then, I've re-played LOD numerous times and still love every minute of it.
Plot, battle, characters, music, graphic style. All aspects of gameplay are superb!
I'll admit that the voice-overs are horrible... actually laughable! But I have gotten a good deal of amusement from that too.
This game started me on my RPG kick, which has held since. Since playing this game, I've played more RPGs than I can easily count. And while there may be a few that I have come to like more than LOD, it still has a very special place in my heart. I would highly recommend this game to anyone.

Summary: Sony did a wonderful job.....
Comment: This game will always and unfortunately be compared to square's final fantasy VII. Sony unfortunately brought that upon themselves with the main character looking similar to Cloud and Lloyd having silver hair like Sephiroth. Despite all that Sony put out an excellent game that noone should miss.

Story: The story starts 10,000 years before Dart and company and brings along many twists and takes you along an epic journey. There are evil emperors and dragons to fight and control as you progress throughout the game. Again, the story is as old and original as you can get, boy likes girl, girl gets kidnapped, boy saves girl and world. Again remember its not the story itself but how the story is told that makes it great. There is a lot more to the story with 9 different playable characters each bringing their own story into the mix to help complicate the ultimate goal.

Graphics: This game is visually stunning from the cg clips that help drive the story along to the random battles. 3-D battles with stunning visual armor and Dragoon transformations are done really well. Dragons look rather funny, but everyone has there own take on how dragons should look, I wasn't to fond of most of them as some didn't look like dragons to me. I still don't understand why games like this and final fantasy don't have their characters armor change when you go into fight modes. They could take some notes from the makers of Legend of Legaia.

Combat System: I did like the "addition" system but an option to just hit a button and go through some random battles would've been nice. Dragoon transformation was awesome and unfortunately can be a rather long and annoying process making some boss battles last over 30 min's and thats with the shorter transformations. Magic usage was dissapointing as you can only use them while in Dragoon form and you only get 4 spells per character except Kongol who only gets 3. The spells and dragon summons are nicely done and Rose has a well....its different thats for sure. It would have been nice to change out Dart in the party so you could use different character combinations. For the most part its nicely done and an enjoyment to use.

Characters: Dart is your main character who is afraid to admit his emotions to Shana. Shana is your heroine who gets kind of annoying with self confidence issues but is easily overlooked. Rose is your quiet and mysterious character who is probably the most loved character in the game. Lavitz becomes Darts best friend in the game and is a loyal knight to the King. Albert is the King in the country you live in and is a key part in the beginning of the story. Haschel is an old martial arts and tries to be the comedic guy in the party. Kongol is your typical "dumb" strong guy and is used in most of your battles. Meru is your fun loving annoying character who has a lot of energy. Lastly there is Miranda who I thought was only a space filler and brings nothing to the table storywise or in fights.

Music: I liked all the music from the battle music to the love story music and all. The diologue was about average for rpg's but with everything going the way it was going at the time they needed to bring a more realistic and mature dialogue to the table.

The game is four-discs long and you can put in 65+ hours easily. The bad diologue is a turn-off for a lot of most gamers but you can easily figure out what is being said. The linear exploration of the world map wasn't great but did keep you progressing in the story and kept things moving along. Overall the cons in the game are easily over looked and forgotten about. This game gets an easy 5 out of 5 as Sony put together an extraordinary rpg that needs a sequel.

Summary: Great game, not sure if its compatible with the newer ps2's though.
Comment: Sometimes the game will freeze after a boss fight. It is a greatest hits version though, and I think it might not be completely compatible with the newer slim ps2's.
